Enhancing vehicle cornering limit through sideslip and yaw rate control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fully electric vehicles with individually controlled drivetrains can provide a high degree of drivability and vehicle safety, all while increasing the cornering limit and the ‘fun-todrive’ aspect. This paper investigates a new approach on how sideslip control can be integrated into a continuously active yaw rate controller to extend the limit of stable vehicle cornering and to allow sustained high values of sideslip angle. The controllabilityrelated limitations of integrated yaw rate and sideslip control, together with its potential benefits, are discussed through the tools of multi-variable feedback control theory and non-linear phase-plane analysis. Two examples of integrated yaw rate and sideslip control systems are presented and their effectiveness is experimentally evaluated and demonstrated on a four-wheel-drive fully electric vehicle prototype. Results show that the integrated control system allows safe operation at the vehicle cornering limit at a specified sideslip angle independent of the tire-road friction conditions. & 2015 The Authors. Multi-Objective Sliding Mode Control on Vehicle Cornering Stability with Variable Gear Ratio Actuator-Based Active Front Steering Systems
Active front steering (AFS) is an emerging technology to improve the vehicle cornering stability by introducing an additional small steering angle to the driver's input. This paper proposes an AFS system with a variable gear ratio steering (VGRS) actuator which is controlled by using the sliding mode control (SMC) strategy to improve the cornering stability of vehicles. In the design of an AFS ...

This paper presents a process for the estimation of tire-road forces, vehicle sideslip angle and wheel cornering stiffness. The method uses measurements (yaw rate, longitudinal/lateral accelerations, steering angle and angular wheel velocities) only from sensors which can be integrated or have already been integrated in modern cars. The estimation process is based on two blocks in series: the f...

A novel vehicle stability control method integrated direct yaw moment control (DYC) with active front steering (AFS) is presented in this paper. By the phase plane of sideslip angle and sideslip angular velocity, vehicle stable region is determined. When the vehicle is outside the stable region, DYC controller is firstly used to produce proper direct yaw moment, which can make the vehicle back ...
